Past week was a week of Armenian cinema and intercultural cooperation

Review of May 31-June 6 cultural events.

One of the major cultural events of the past week was screening of “From Ararat to Zion” documentary which was watched by 20 000 people in Moscow cinema. Besides being named the best Documentary-Europe of the Swansea Film Festival in UK, the film was selected for the finals of 8 other festivals and will also be presented ay Moscow Film Festival and Docuwest Festival in Colorado.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Moreover, Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan signed a decree on awarding Rev. Father Mesrop Aramyan and film director Edgar Baghdasaryan, the creators of From Ararat to Zion, the best Documentary-Europe of the Swansea Film Festival, with Mesrop Mashtots order.

According to film director Hovhannes Galstyan, much should be done prior to inclusion of Armenian films in the main competition program of the Cannes Film Festival. “However, there are four programs, participation in which should become a national holiday,” he said. “The applicants’ goal is participation in the Festival’s film market, which provides great opportunities for presenting and exchanging films with other countries. He noted that English, Norwegian, Russian, Indian, Czech and French companies displayed interest in the Armenian cinema.

National Gallery music festival closed with a Concert of Gratitude. “This concert will mark the closing of the 6th National Gallery and opening of Viola and Violoncello festival,” said Mariam Shahinyan, President of Art Gallery cultural foundation. “This festival has become a part of our life, so we are anticipating Return festival in fall and another National Gallery next spring,” composer Yervand Yerkanyan said.

Lovers’ Park in Yerevan hosted a concert of German Satori-Quartet organized as a part of the South Caucasian tour. Members of the quartet say that being a chamber music ensemble they want to open guitar music to a wider audience both by maintaining the classical guitar repertoire and by interpreting the works dedicated to the guitar quartet. Loyalty to the text and interpretative clarity as well as concentration and a playful presence characterize the performance of the four musicians.

During a meeting of the organization committee on celebration of the 750th birth anniversary of Armenian medieval khachkar master and miniaturist Momik, the schedule of events was drawn up.

It was also decided to open an exhibition of painter Vardges Surenyants’ works in the National Gallery of Armenia to mark his 150th birth anniversary.

Besides, The 211th birth anniversary of outstanding Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was marked in Armenia on June 6. The event held under the aegis of Rossotrudnichestvo office in Yerevan took place on the Pushkin pass near the monument which depicts Pushkin’s meeting with the bullock cart carrying the dead body of Alexander Griboyedov in Gar Gar village of Lori region of Armenia.
