The week began with continuation of discussions over the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, flowed mainly into the criticism of the foreign policy authorities, and conditioned by the weakness of its internal state. As Vahan Shirkhanyan, Member of the Social-Democratic Hunchak Party Central Board, noted on Monday at a press conference, challenges facing Armenia are not decreasing but increasing. He stressed that this process is not natural, but arising from the policies pursued by the Armenian authorities.

Over the past 10 months, Armenia fixed a 17.5% economic downfall compared to the same period of last year. According to the official data of RA National Statistic Service, GDP in January-February comprised AMD 2466,3 billion. This is a very promising rate which leads local and foreign experts to the assumption that 2009 economic downfall will make up 15%.

There is something symbolic in the fact that important, one might even say fateful meetings of the Heads of States are usually held in cities with a "bad" reputation. It turns out that these meetings are either doomed to failure from the very beginning, or, at worst, one of the sides ends up losing. Alas, no exception is the upcoming meeting in Munich on November 22, when the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet at a regular gathering to discuss the possible ways of breaking the deadlock, called the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

A couple of years ago I had a chance of an interview with Robert Sahakyants and one could not assume at that time that he would leave the world so soon. We all knew he was ill, but no one suspected how serious the illness was. He was one of those without whom, in his opinion, everything would sink in sweet syrup.
