Communication sector proceeds grossed 124.9bln in January–September 2010 in Armenia, exceeding last year’s index by 2.2 %. According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, proceeds from fixed telephony, mobile communication and Internet services totaled AMD 23.5mln, 77.3mln and 17.9mln respectively.

The food basket in Armenia comprised AMD 28064,4 in the third quarter of 2010, against AMD 26485,4 in the second quarter. According to the National Statistical Service, the basket of goods totaled AMD 43499.8 per month or AMD 492629,1 per year. The annual expenses per person: bread (AMD 35,2 thousand), meat (AMD 78,4 thousand), milk (AMD 23,8 thousand), cheese (AMD 11,8 thousand), potato (AMD 22,7 thousand), vegetables (AMD 28,9 thousand), fruit (AMD 39,4 thousand), sugar (AMD 6 thousand), eggs (AMD 7,3 thousand), oil (AMD 4,8 thousand).

The election campaign in Azerbaijan is coming to an end, as always, on a note of anti-Armenian hysteria. Every parliamentary candidate in Azerbaijan feels it his duty to ‘return the occupied land and punish the aggressor”. These statements, that are as far from common sense as they are from reality, are supported by court experts and political analysts.

Chess: Armenian Mika women’s club gained 18 points, finishing 3rd at the European Chess Club Cup in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Armenian club won 4, tied 1 and lost 2 out of 7 rounds. Men’s club showed the same result, finishing 11th with 28,5 points. Monaco’s Cercle d'Echecs de Monte Carlo women’s and Russia’s Economist- SGSEU-1 men’s clubs won the tournament.

The arrival of representatives of rather obscure and marginal party – Powerful Turkey – in Yerevan has become a subject of close attention of the Armenian media and some experts rather than the RA National Security Service (NSS). Possibly, everything would have been normal – rather serious Turkish experts and political analysts arrive in Armenia often and nobody invites them to the NSS. But two representatives of Powerful Turkey were invited for a “conversation,” what has caused various comments. Definitely, the October 30 events in Yerevan were an evident PR action. However, it is unclear why Armenians have fallen for it.

The second barbecue festival was held in Akhtala, Lori region of Armenia, on Sunday, September 12. It was dated to two other events: re-consecration of Surb Mariam Astvatsatsin Church and inauguration of a monument to wedding rings.
