Intel center to open in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The average Internet speed totaled 303.85 kilobytes/sec in Armenia as of June 2010.

According to the results of a research placed on Speedtest.am website, U!Com (636.66 kilobytes/sec), FastNet (450.99 kilobytes/sec), Orange (345.43 kilobytes/sec), Cornet (334.15 kilobytes/sec) and Beeline (332.00 kilobytes/sec) secured the highest carrying capacity of Internet in June. The report provided by Speedtest.am is based on 89,000 inspections of 37,000 users of the site, which allows testing the speed of Internet connection and download. Meanwhile, Arminco, ADC, Radionet, Harknet, Web, Icon and VivaCell providers secure Internet speed from 297.19 to 233.86 kilobytes/second.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met with retired CEO/Chairman of the Board of Intel Corp., Dr. Craig R. Barrett to discuss implementation of joint projects, specifically collaboration in the framework of World Ahead program. Attaching importance to establishment of Scientific research center jointly with Intel Corp, the two men exchanged views on e-society concept.

Executive Director of Synopsys Armenia Hovik Musayelyan said that the Armenian representation in Silicon Valley will be opened until fall of 2010. The Armenian government was going to open the representation last year, but failed to do it due to technical reasons. "The opening of representation in Silicon Valley will allow Armenian companies to be better represented in the U.S., be closer to Silicon Valley - to the scientific and educational environment established there. In my opinion, we will see the results of this activity with the lapse of time," concluded Hovik Abrahamyan.

Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan said that the RA Law on Communication refers to regulation issues rather than to management aspects.

Thus, according to the Minister, it is necessary to regulate physical networks and create information banks. Besides, it is necessary to create a communication inspection to follow the services provided in the country’s regions and activity of communication operators and providers.

The Arbitration Committee of Russian-language section of Wikipedia adopted a decision on the case of 26 Baku wikipedians. The claim of a Russian participant (nickname Divot) against 26 editors of Wikipedia contains an accusation of coordination of Azerbaijanis’ actions on the external resource with violation of a range of Wikipedia rules. The activity of the most persistent violators has been banned on Wikipedia for the term of 3-6 months. “After the unblocking, the participant will be forbidden to edit controversial articles with editing limitation of Wikipedia spaces,” reads the decision of the Arbitration Committee.

At least four Armenian websites were attacked by Azerbaijani hackers during a week.

On July 2, the websites of Henaran.am press club (Henaran.am) and Armenia's Sambo Federation (sambo.am) were hacked to place Azerbaijan's flag and references to Azerbaijani media on them. Meanwhile, the websites' operation has already been resumed. Besides, on June 29, hackers attacked Azdagir.am site of announcements again to place the Azerbaijani flag on it, as well as information on the January 20, 1990, events in Baku. On June 30, the owner of psyarmenia.com website told PanARMENIAN.Net that the site on psychology was hacked and a poster on "Armenian terror" was placed on it. Currently, the two websites do not operate.
