Vienna talks on Karabakh settlement were successful: Azeri President

PanARMENIAN.Net - The meeting in Vienna on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was successful, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Saturday, May 28.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents met in Vienna on May 16, with top diplomats from Russia, France and the United States mediating the talks as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs.

“We expect that very serious, substantive talks will follow soon," Aliyev said at a reception on the Republic Day.

Earlier, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that at the meeting, the Armenian side sought to find out whether the Nagorno Karabakh negotiations are deadlocked.

“We aimed to find out whether there is an alternative to war and if the conflict can be settled with minimal losses,” Sargsyan said, adding that the results of the meeting are satisfactory.

“Generally, my colleagues and I are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. There are some reasons not to delve into the details; however, the Azerbaijani President did assure that his country doesn’t intend to resolve the conflict through hostilities.”
