Tender for national telecommunication network construction in Armenia to be announced soon

PanARMENIAN.Net - Secretary of the council for assistance to information technologies development Armen Grigoryan said that the tender for construction of the national telecommunication network with capacity of 100Mbit/s will be announced among Armenia’s internet providers soon.

Investments to the project will total $60-100mln, Grigoryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The operator, which wins the tender, should provide the network for rent to other interested companies.

According to Grigoryan, the network construction works will be launched in three months.

Meanwhile, CEO of ArmenTel company Igor Klimko told journalists that the company is going to participate in the tender. “ArmenTel already has such a network. ArmenTel is the only integrated operator of Armenia. In my opinion, the project cannot be implemented without our participation,” Klimko said, adding that investments to a similar network are estimated to make minimum $500mln.

Construction of the national network of high-speed broadband Internet in Armenia is a part of the program implemented jointly with the World Bank to increase technologies competitiveness. The World Bank made a decision on allocation of $24mln for the program late in November.
