Google blocks all rooted Android devices from making movie rentals

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google now blocks all rooted Android devices from making movie rentals on the Android Market.

Android Central recently reported how users who attempted to use Android Market’s new movie rental service, which saw the limelight at the Google I/O developer conference, received a specific error message on rooted Android devices:

“Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49).”

Moreover, Google did not shy out from explaining the right reason why this error message pops out, socialbarrel.com reported.

A help article from the Android Market’s support page wrote, “You’ll receive this ‘Error 49′ message if you attempt to play a movie on a rooted device. Rooted devices are currently unsupported due to requirements related to copyright protection.”

If you are adamant to keep “superuser” privileges on your Android device, you have to wait: definitely, a third-party patch or fix will emerge and allow root users to tap into Android Market rentals.

Usually, when a restriction to content occurs, it only agitates third-party development communities into finding a workaround.

Until then, users of rooted Android devices could settle for Netflix.
