BarCamp Yerevan 2011 informal conference launched

PanARMENIAN.Net - BarCamp Yerevan 2011 informal conference kicked off on June 4.

The event was opened by Charles McCathieNevile, Opera Software Chief Standards Officer, who delivered a presentation on modern web standards.

In a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Mr. McCathieNevile positively assessed the skills of Armenian software developers. “This is my first ever participation in Armenia-hosted BarCamp. The event is held in a healthy atmosphere, which suggests a healthy and developed society capable of better work results,” he said further.

As Vladimir Isaev, Communications Manager at Opera Software told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Opera mini is more popular with Armenian users than Russian ones. As he remarked, Opera browsers are very popular in CIS states.

BarCampYerevan 2011 will be held in the American University of Armenia on June 4-5. Official tag of BarCampYerevan 2011 is #barcampevn11.

BarCamp is an international network of user-generated conferences. They are open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and were related to open source technologies, social protocols and open data formats. The first BarCamp was held in Palo Alto, California, in 2005. Since then, BarCamps have been held in over 350 cities around the world.

The event has been organized in Armenia since 2009. BarCamp was held in the Republic of Artsakh for the first time in 2010.

This year, the event was sponsored by ArmenTel, Internews Armenia, Opera Software and PanARMENIAN Media.
