RPA tried to create “People’s front” aiming for presidential race – expert

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political expert Karen Kocharyan slammed the proportional list of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) saying it reflects the prior pledges of the authorities.

“RPA disappointed many people. The top ten presents common nomenclature; starting from 15th candidate, problems arise,” he told journalists.

He said problems will emerge both within the party and with regard to public attitude, since the party had promised to introduce younger party members, at least educated people, with no tycoons involved. “I don’t think this list justifies promises voiced by the authorities over the past 2-3 years,” he said.

Kocharyan added that good young politicians are also included in the list, “but it’s clear that one or two persons will not change anything”.

Replying to the journalists’ question about RPA's advantages from involvement of experienced politicians like Artashes Geghamyan, Khosrov Harutyunyan and Hayk Babukhanyan, Kocharyan said: “This does give any benefits but rather hurts RPA.”

According to Kocharyan, some believe that these people were included in the list on purpose, so that they could oppose ANC in the parliament and speak against it. “RPA humiliates itself. It appears that they have no members to oppose the ANC, and they attract others for this purpose, these being rather worn-out figures.”

The expert thinks RPA attempted to create something like the Russian “People’s front” which is later supposed to participate in the presidential race.
