Environmentalists vs. sexual minorities: Mashtots Park developments

PanARMENIAN.Net - The “demotivator” - no boutiques, no gays” posted today, March 24 in Facebook social network by famous Armenian activist- environmentalist Mariam Sukhudyan sparked big fuss. The picture provoked heated debates, dividing Mashtots Park activist into two camps: against sexual minorities and for sexual pluralism.

Many simply urged to delete the image, considering it a provocation against the movement. In this respect, user Lusine Margaryan asked the following question, “If this is a provocation, who is it aimed against? The greens make provocations against themselves?”

As the answer to the question interested me too, after reading all the discussions I found out that the same ideas were repeated.

“Take it easy,” page owner Mariam Sukhudyan advised the facebook activists, noting the image aimed to “picture those trading from boutiques” and not voice discrimination against anyone. I wonder how the boutique clients perceive comparing themselves with transvestites and if the comparison is an involuntary admission by Sukhujyan of perceiving the homosexuality as something defective.

Some of the participants in the heated discussions, clueless about the whole thing, started calling for armed revolution. For instance, Antranik Miranjian said that, “nothing will change until people take arms and attack the authorities.”

Meanwhile, outside observers can only follow the “heated debates.”
