Expert: OSCE MG last barrier to resumption of hostilities in Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political analyst at European Integration NGO Manvel Ghumashyan said despite OSCE Minsk Group’s failure to achieve its goal, namely the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, he assessed Groups’ activities as positive over the past 20 years.

“Armenian President also hailed activities of OSCE Minsk Group in his address to OSCE co-chair-states,” Ghumashyan told a press conference. “Baku, on the contrary, voices constant criticism and indignation over its activities striving to change the format [of negotiations],” he added.

According to the expert, the thing is that Azerbaijan realizes that the MG is currently the only settlement mechanism operating more or less effectively, and this is why it does not go beyond negative statements.

Ghumashyan said though the conflict is still there, the Minsk Group is one of guarantors of peace in Artsakh, and its role can be dubbed positive only due to that.

The expert believes that this format is the only barrier that hinders resumption of military actions.
