Politician suggests ANC member withdraw candidacy

Member of Heritage party’s electoral list, Karapet Rubinyan commented on the disagreements between Heritage and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc regarding cooperation in majority constituencies.

According to him, “ANC created an image of “bad” Heritage aiming its candidates against the Congress.”

“That was true to fact only in one case, with 30 minutes difference (Raffi Hovannisian vs. Nikol Pashinyan), while in other cases Heritage was the first to nominate its candidates,” Mr. Rubinyan said.

In this context, he stressed Hovannisian’s withdrawal from the majority race not to create problems for his opposition fellow.

“Our friends from ANC may improve the situation. Aram Manukyan, for instance, who left his numerous voters in Armenia’s Lori province and proposed candidacy in Arabkir District, might withdraw his candidacy against one of the best MPs of our Third Armenian Republic Zaruhi Postanjyan as a ‘goodwill gesture’,” Rubinyan said.

Leader of opposition Heritage party Raffi Hovannissian informed the journalists on March 26 that he called back his candidacy from 7th constituency where he intended to run for the parliamentary elections by majority system.

On March 23, Hovannissian proposed a meeting with opposition forces to discuss cooperation at elections in majority constituencies. He said each majority constituency should have one opposition candidate, so that the opposition’s forces are not dispersed.

Heritage leader was going to rival notorious tycoon Samvel Alexanyan and another opposition figure Nikol Pashinyan in the 7th constituency.
