Amy Adams joins Sondheim's “Into the Woods” open-air production

PanARMENIAN.Net - Three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is to tread the boards in New York this summer in an open-air production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, BBC News reported.

Adams, 37, will play the Baker's Wife in the Tony-winning musical, described as a "witty and irreverent reimagining of beloved classic fairy-tales".

The revival is based on the one seen at London's Open Air Theatre in 2010.

There has been speculation that Meryl Streep will appear as the Witch in the Central Park production.

Streep, who won her third Oscar earlier this year, acted alongside Adams in 2008 film Doubt. The 62-year-old was previously seen at the open-air Delacorte Theatre in a 2006 production of Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard in February, Sondheim neither confirmed nor denied Streep's involvement in the Into the Woods revival. "We will see," said the 82-year-old composer and lyricist. "I think she'd be great."

Adams, recently seen in The Muppets, will feature later this year in On the Road, a film version of the celebrated Jack Kerouac novel.

Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton are currently starring in a London production of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, which opened to rave reviews last month.
