Doisneau was one of France's best known photographers, most famous for his photograph The Kiss, a photo of a couple kissing in the busy streets of Paris. His photographs, taken over the course of several decades, provide a great record of French life. Doisneau (born April 14, 1912) was noted for his lyrical approach to street photography. When he died, aged 81, on April 1, 1994 after a prolonged illness, he left behind an impressive collection of 450,000 negatives.
