"Battleship" tops foreign box office with $130 mln

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal's "Battleship" ruled the overseas box office this weekend, The Wrap reported.

The pricey action film has now steamed to nearly $130 million at the foreign box office, after taking in another $58.4 million from 50 overseas territories in its second weekend, according to Rentrak estimates.

That made it the top moneymaker at the foreign box office. Fox's 3D rerelease of "Titanic" took in another $34.3 million, from 71 territories.

"Battleship," which will open in the U.S. on May 18, opened in the top spot in 16 countries, including a glossy $10.7 million bow in Russia. It stayed on top in 12 territories where it was in its second week, including the U.K. and Germany.

It's biggest haul was in China, where it grossed an estimated $17 million at 2,287 locations. That was Universal's biggest opening weekend ever in China, but not enough to knock "Titanic" from the top spot there.
