Sofia hosts Armenian Genocide commemoration events

PanARMENIAN.Net - Bulgarian capital Sofia hosted a number of events on April 21 commemorating the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The events were initiated by Sofia’s Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations under the auspices of Armenian embassy in Bulgaria, Armenian General Benevolent Union in Sofia and included an open lecture by Lebanon-based Armenian Misak Keleshian.

Keleshian told about Turkish policy of converting Armenian children into Turks after they appeared in orphanages established by Young Turks after the Armenian Genocide; he also presented video evidences proving these facts.

Georgy Markov, director of Bulgarian Academy’s History Institute and deputy chairman of Domestic Macedonian Revolutionary Organization party also attended the event, along with Sofia’s city administration council member Angel Djambazki.

The event featured also statements by European Parliament members Andrey Kovachev and Slavi Bineva.
