Portuguese diplomat says Iran sanctions may be eased soon

PanARMENIAN.Net - Portuguese ambassador to the UN is optimistic about the outcomes of the upcoming talks between Iran and the six major world powers (P5+1) in Baghdad, saying it is likely that UN sanctions against Tehran will be eased soon, Press TV reports.

“Negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 have been going on for a long time. I hope that Baghdad meeting will yield satisfactory results,” Jose Filipe Moraes Cabral said on Wednesday, May 16.

He added that any decision about a probable reduction of the UN sanctions against Iran could be made after the results of Baghdad talks come out.

“If the sides show more flexibility, there is hope that talks will end in successfully,” Cabral said.

Iran and the P5+1 - Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany - wrapped up the first round of their latest negotiations on April 14 in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Both sides hailed the talks as constructive.

The next round of talks will be held in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on May 23.
