Cannes: Garcia Bernal’s Pinochet drama “No” wins top prize at Directors Fortnight

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Directors Fortnight section at Cannes has said yes to "No," Chilean director's Pablo Larrian's look at the referendum that ended Pinochet's reign in that country. On Friday, May 25 the film won the top prize at the Directors Fortnight, a section that runs concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, TheWrap reported.

Earlier this week, Sony Pictures Classics acquired North American rights to the film, which stars Gael Garcia Bernal as an ad man working on the campaign to persuade votes to give Pinochet a no vote.

Other winners include Merzak Allouache's "El taaib" and Noemie Lvovsky's "Camille redouble."

Directors Fortnight awards a variety of prizes sponsored by different groups.

Other films in this year's competition included Michel Gondry's "The We and I," Ben Wheatley's "Sightseers" and Rodney Ascher's "Room 237."
