LG makes highest resolution LCD screen to date

PanARMENIAN.Net - Korean display and phone maker LG has raised the bar in the smartphone stakes by making a 5in full HD LCD panel, the highest resolution LCD screen to date, The Inquirer reports.

LG's new display has 440ppi resolution, which means it has more pixels per inch than both the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Iphone 4S. It also uses AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) for a 1920x1080 pixel display, which means the screen will boast image quality that's the same as an HDTV and should feature excellent outdoor visibility.

"As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new 5 [inch] Full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market," said Sang-Deok Yeo, CTO and EVP of LG Display.

"With the world's highest resolution smartphone display, LG Display continues to remain a step ahead in developing the most innovative in display technology products."

LG expects to start producing phones with the 5in full HD LCD display in the second half of 2012, which might be too late to challenge Samsung's latest Galaxy S III smartphone.
