Jhonathan Florez shatters Guinness record with longest duration wingsuit jump

PanARMENIAN.Net - A Colombian-born wingman broke four Guinness World Records in a single death-defying jump from a plane flying at 37,265 ft, NY Daily News reported citing The Telegraph.

Jhonathan Florez broke the record for longest duration wingsuit jump with a dive above La Guajira, Colombia that lasted 9 minutes and 6 seconds in temperatures of -49F on April 20.

The fearless 29-year-old jumped from so high that he also smashed the records for greatest horizontal distance flown in a wingsuit at 16.315 miles, greatest absolute distance flown in a wingsuit at 17.520 miles and the highest-ever wingsuit jump.

“It was just an amazing feeling when I completed the jump,” the daredevil told the newspaper. “It was the best moment of my life.”

Recently-released footage shows Florez looking out the door of the plane seconds before he takes his record-breaking leap.

Florez, a professional filmmaker and photographer, captured the dive from start to finish with cameras attached to his helmet and back.

“When you are up there it really feels like you are flying,” Florez said. “It was great to break so many records in just one attempt.”

The daredevil underwent months of training before travelling through the air at speeds of up to 100 mph.

Florez made the dive in an Apache XRW suit, which features a GPS tracking system and special thermals to protect him from the freezing temperatures.

“You have to be strong enough to be able to manoeuvre your body and I was up their for a long time,” the stuntman said.
