EU welcomes Armenia’s efforts for transparent parliamentary polls![]() July 4, 2012 - 15:48 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - EU welcomes Armenia’s effort in holding more competitive and transparent parliamentary elections, European Council President said in Yerevan. Mr Herman Van Rompuy further expressed confidence for the shortcomings noted to be corrected by the upcoming presidential poll. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan agreed with European Council President’s remarks, adding that more work in is progress to improve the electoral procedures. The President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, is on a regional official visit to the South Caucasus on July 3-5. The visit will start in Armenia on July 3-4, and then continue to Georgia and Azerbaijan. Partner news Members of all parliamentary groups, PM, Energy Minister and the chair of the Public Services Regulatory Commission were invited to participate. Vahan Hovhannisyan voiced hope that the ruling authorities acknowledge the difficulties Armenia currently faces. Prior to the vote, RPA parliamentary group leader Galust Sahakyan announced the party’s decision to vote against the bill.
