President Sargsyan: Armenia values Belgium’s recognition of Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - On July 13, newly-appointed Belgian Ambassador Guy Trouveroy (residence in Moscow) presented his credentials to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

Congratulating the envoy on his appointment, the President stressed Armenia’s interest in further development of ties with Belgium.

President Sargsyan thanked the authorities and people of Belgium for assistance offered to Armenia throughout 20 years of the country’s independence, as well as offering a refuge to Armenian Genocide survivors.

As the President noted, Armenia greatly values Belgium’s official recognition of 1915 Genocide in Ottoman Empire.

The Ambassador, in turn, stressed the role of Belgium’s Armenian community in strengthening of bilateral ties, and perpetuating Belgium’s respect for the history and culture of the Armenian nation, presidential press service reported.

At the meeting, the parties focused on the prospects of bilateral relations, and cooperation in the framework of international organizations.
Dwelling on the hike in gas prices, Iskandaryan said the change also affected other countries importing Russian gas.
Armen Martirosyan noted that the price rise will further deteriorate the situation in the country, fostering emigration.
In this connection, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian left for Strasbourg to attend CoE foreign ministers meeting.
