In May, the professional social networking service had claimed 161 million members, up from 150 million in February. The company announced the figure in its second-quarter earnings release on Thursday, in which it also reported earnings of $0.03 per share on revenues of $228 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $.01 per share and revenues of $216 million. The company’s stock price was up more than 4% in after-hours trading. LinkedIn’s stock price has jumped 48.5% since the beginning of the year. The number of new smartphones delivered with Android jumped to 162.1 million in the first three months in 2013. “We believe Samsung generates more revenue and profit from the Android platform than Google does,” Neil Mawston said.
