U.S. marking 11th anniversary of Sept 11 terrorist attacks

PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States is marking the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

According to RFE/RL, iIn New York, relatives of those killed at the World Trade Center towers will read out the names of the victims where the towers once stood.

Another 1,000 deaths during the past 11 years have been linked to illnesses caused by toxic dust from the collapsed towers.

Ceremonies also are scheduled at the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania - two other locations where airliners hijacked by Al-Qaeda crashed.

U.S. President Barack Obama is marking the anniversary at the White House before visiting the Pentagon.

Vice President Joe Biden is attending a ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania where a hijacked plane crashed after passengers attempted to seize the plane back from the hijackers.
