West supports Arab Spring to neutralize radical Islamists – expert

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. and other Western countries are trying to get involved in Arab Spring to weaken or neutralize the threat of radical Islamization of Arab states, Arab studies expert said.However, as Sargis Grigoryan told a news conference in Yerevan, the West merely supported, rather than initiated Arab Spring-related events.

“Having intensified their activities, radical Islamists and al-Qaeda are attempting to establish influence in the states which have undergone serious change as a result of Arab Spring.”

“Even if the West succeeds in neutralizing the threat of radical Islamization in a traditional and secular state like Syria, it’s highly unlikely that Egypt’s Muslim Brothers will be as easy to manage,” the expert concluded.
