Afghanistan bans YouTube![]() September 12, 2012 - 17:56 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Afghanistan banned YouTube on Wednesday, Sept 12, so Afghans would not be able to watch a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad that has sparked protests in Egypt and Libya and the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, the Ministry of Communications said. "We have been told to shut down YouTube to the Afghan public until the video is taken down," Reuters quoted Aimal Marjan, general director of Information Technology at the ministry, as saying. In the past, material and actions deemed insulting to Islam have sparked deadly riots in Afghanistan. Partner news Microsoft revealed last week that it received 6-7,000 requests implicating 31-32,000 accounts in the last six months. It is believed that Fisa requests typically seek much more information. But it remains unclear how broad the Fisa orders might be. The acquisitions are the latest in a string under Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who is rebuilding the company on the fly. By mid-July, users will get to apply for IDs of their choice, and will find out which one they have got by mid-August. Partner news |
