Unlike Chechens, Afghans fought in Karabakh for money – war hero

PanARMENIAN.Net - Afghan mujahedins were fighting Karabakh war with the Azeris for money, rather than faith, war hero, Major General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan said.

“In Karabakh war years, Baku meant to hire several thousand mujahedins. Having realized that the latters are not up to the task, Azerbaijan began using Afghans as mercenaries to shoot at deserters,” he said.

“Chechens, also fighting on Azeri side, were actually the ones who did it for faith. As the leader of Chechen rebel movement Shamil Basayev said “Azeris are hopeless in a fight against Armenians.” I believe it was after this remark that Chechens stopped fighting for Azerbaijan,” Ter-Tadevosyan said.
