Hayrapetyan submitted a statement on September 5. According to National Assembly regulations, unless the statement on resigning a parliamentary seat is recalled within 15 days, a statement is drawn up to be signed by parliament speaker, which is further sent to Central Electoral Committee. In an earlier interview to Nouvelles d'Arménie, Hayrapetyan expressed intention to recall his statement to continue his work as an MP. Hayrapetyan gave up his deputy mandate in July. The step followed the tragic incident at Hayrapetyan-owned Harsnakar restaurant, where his bodyguards beat 3 military doctors, with one of them having died while in coma. The tragedy was followed by mass protests demanding a fair probe into the case and punishment for those responsible.
