Apple says iPhone 5 sales surpass 5 million in first three days

PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple announced Monday, Sept 24, that sales of its new iPhone 5 surpassed 5 million in its first three days on the market, according to PC Magazine.

Approximately 100 million iOS devices, meanwhile, have been upgraded to Cupertino's latest mobile OS, iOS 6.

"Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said in a statement. "While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone."

Apple started accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 5 on Sept. 14 and the smartphone went on sale on Friday. Apple fans lined up at the company's flagship Fifth Ave. store - as well as various stores around the globe - to nab one of the first iPhone 5's.

The iPhone 5 is now on sale in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the UK. It will be available in 22 more countries on Sept. 28 and more than 100 countries by the end of the year, Apple said.

The 5 million iPhones sold tops the 4 million iPhone 4S devices buyers snapped up in the first three days that smartphone was on sale. At this point, it falls short of the 10 million one analyst predicted Apple might sell, though that analyst did predict sales of 10 million in the first week rather than the first three days. Last week, Apple said pre-orders had topped 2 million in 24 hours.
