Barak says Israel ‘ready for any challenge’![]() September 27, 2012 - 15:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak reiterated on Thursday, Sept 27, that his country is ready for any challenge, but that Israel could not rely on anyone but themselves, The Jerusalem Post reported. Speaking at the memorial service for the 1973 war's victims, Barak stated: "The region around us is alight. The IDF and security forces are ready for any challenge, be it near or far." He continued: "When faced with the ultimate test, we can rely on no one but ourselves," he said. The annual memorial ceremony for the victims of the Yom Kippur War was held on Jerusalem's Mount Herzl. Partner news U.S. officials say they want to advance efforts to start talks between the Syrian government and opposition leaders. The international conference, backed by Russia and the U.S., aims to find a political solution to the conflict in Syria.
