Oscar winner Bernardo Bertolucci to get European Film Academy award October 9, 2012 - 18:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Oscar winning filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci is to be given a lifetime achievement award by the European Film Academy at the organization's upcoming awards event, The Hollywood Reporter said. The Italian director - whose movie The Last Emperor won a total of nine Oscars, also received three BAFTA Awards, the French César, nine David di Donatello awards and a special jury award at the inaugural European Film Awards in 1988 - will be given the award at the event in December. Bertolucci's resume begins in film as an assistant director to Pier Paolo Pasolini on Accattone before going on to direct his first feature film at the age of 21. His second film Before the Revolution in 1964, garnered critical acclaim and his 1970 movie The Conformist, starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Stefania Sandrelli won the Italian David di Donatello for best film and garnered Bertolucci’s first Oscar nomination. His 1972 film Last Tango In Paris with Marlon Brando, Maria Schneider and Jean-Pierre Leaud received another two Oscar nominations and his epic 1900 with Robert de Niro, Gérard Depardieu and Burt Lancaster cemented his place as an auteur before the success of The Last Emperor in 1987. His latest film Me and You unspooled Out of Competition during this year's Festival de Cannes. Bertolucci will be an honorary guest at the 25th European Film Awards ceremony on Dec. 1 in Malta.
