Safaryan lost to the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) candidate, Football Federation head Ruben Hayrapetyan at May 6 parliamentary race in №1 electoral district. As a result of June 17 brawl at Harsnakar Restaurant owned by Ruben Hayrapetyan, military doctors Vahe Avetyan and Artak Bayadyan were hospitalized with serious injuries. Doctor Garik Soghomonyan was transferred to the Central Military Hospital with skull trauma. Avetyan died in hospital after being in coma for 12 days. Vahe Avetyan’s death further resulted in a number of protest actions against Ruben Hayrapetyan, demanding justice and punishment for those guilty.
