Prize-winning author Rushdie's “Midnight's Children” trailer released (video) October 23, 2012 - 19:46 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Midnight's Children has had a new trailer released, Digital Spy said. Deepa Mehta's adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Booker Prize-winning novel charts the destinies of two children born at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, the moment that India claimed its independence from the British. Saleem Sinai (Satya Bhabha) is the son of a poor single mother, and Shiva (Siddharth) the progeny of a wealthy household. Their lives are unwittingly intertwined when they are switched at birth and each lives out the fate intended for the other. For the story spanning generations, Rushdie has penned the screenplay, provided the narration and acted as executive producer. The film has caused controversy due to its portrayal of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by Kama Sutra actress Sarita Choudhary, but it has secured distribution in India despite this. The ensemble cast includes Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas, Shahana Goswami and Charles Dance. Rushdie joined Deepa Mehta and the cast at the film's premiere at the 56th BFI London Film Festival. Midnight's Children releases nationwide in the US on November 2, and on December 26 in the UK.
