PanARMENIAN.Net - Rhys Ifans has been cast in Madame Bovary.

The Amazing Spider-Man actor will appear alongside Mia Wasikowska, Ezra Miller and Paul Giamatti in the Sophie Barthes adaptation, Digital Spy reported citing Variety.

The tale centers around the titular heroine (Wasikowska), who decides to improve her social standing through a series of extramarital affairs.

Ifans will appear as Monsieur Lheureuse, a merchant who convinces Bovary to shop to excess on credit, eventually resulting in her financial ruin.

Rose Barreneche has adapted the script from Gustave Flaubert's classic 1856 novel.

Ifans most recently portrayed The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and will next be seen alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in Susanne Bier's Serena.
