Levon Shirinyan noted the Democrats’ victory beneficial for Armenia, as they don’t consider Russia its top enemy and pursue relatively moderate policy against Iran. Asked why neither Obama, nor Romney met with Armenian lobbies, the expert noted the candidates’ reluctance to assume any obligations against Turkey ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the U.S. decreasing interest in Armenia after Georgia’s taking up the role of a Caucasian country to adopt pro-Western stance as the two main reasons. Dwelling on the hike in gas prices, Iskandaryan said the change also affected other countries importing Russian gas. Armen Martirosyan noted that the price rise will further deteriorate the situation in the country, fostering emigration. In this connection, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian left for Strasbourg to attend CoE foreign ministers meeting.
