Expert: Russia’s involvement essential in resolving South Caucasus conflicts

PanARMENIAN.Net - Lee Edwards, a distinguished fellow at the Heritage Foundation believes the settlement of the conflicts in the South Caucasus possible only through Russia’s involvement.

“All the issues should be discussed with Russian President. Otherwise, the status quo will be protracted,” he said.

Dwelling on the key trends of the U.S. foreign policy, managing editor of the “Politico” journal Bill Nichols noted that in case of re-election Barack Obama would pursue a more active policy on the settlement of the Middle East conflict.

“Regardless of the election results, the U.S. may continue the policy of sanctions against Iran. The Romney administration will likely support the sanctions. Both parties deem the sanctions effective. I think that the first signs of Iranian government’s readiness for 1+1 negotiations with the U.S. show the effectiveness of these sanctions,” he said.

Senior research officer at the Brookings Institution, analyst William Galston noted that the upcoming presidential elections in the U.S. differ from the previous ones by the fact that the voters are less interested in the foreign policy issues.

“The American voters are more interested in the economic situation of the country. According to the results of polls, Americans are more interested in the issues on economic development and employment growth, this is followed by healthcare, foreign policy issues are in the third place,” APA quoted him as saying.
