Apple offering unlocked iPhone 5 starting at $649

PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple has begun offering the iPhone 5 unlocked in the U.S. via its website, where it is priced upwards of $649, The Next web reports.

The three different versions of the phone — which offer 16GB, 32Gb and 64GB of storage — are available to buy for $649, $749 and $849, respectively, for those for prefer to go off contract and have money to spend.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s physical retail store could begin selling the latest device unlocked from Dec 1. The blog says that its sources indicate that the devices have begun arriving “in large quantities” at various Apple stores this week in preparation.

The unlocked version of the phone is GSM only. That will support the AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the U.S. and overseas operators too, making it a better choice than a CDMA phone for those that regularly travel internationally.

Unlocked devices currently have a one week shipping estimate, purchases are limited to two devices per customer.

The larger device has been a hit with customer and Apple sold racked up 2 million orders within 24 hours of opening pre-orders, going on to sell 5 million units in its first weekend of sales.
