Facebook changing privacy settings to grant users more control

PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook is changing its privacy settings to grant users more control over what they put on their account, Digital Spy said.

The social network will provide account holders with new ways of detagging photos, additional privacy shortcuts and more accessible information about where content will appear.

We don't want our users to be surprised. We want everyone to understand how they can control their information and have the best experience. It is part of our goal to be better, we constantly want to improve," Facebook's chief privacy officer Erin Egan told BBC News.

Privacy settings can now be accessed from an ever-present icon bar, which shows users who can contact them and see their updates, and instructs them on how to block people.

In-product education will explain to Facebook users exactly who can see their posts, reminding them that updates appear in newsfeeds and other areas of the network.

The new request and removal tool allows subscribers to select multiple photos and detag them with a single click. Users can also contact the person who tagged them to explain why they want the photo hidden.

Other changes include revised permission settings for third-party apps and clearer activity logs showing the user's updates history.

The update will be rolled out over the course of the next month and users will be notified before the changes take effect.
