Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins Mickey Rourke in “Sin City” sequel

PanARMENIAN.Net - Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson in the cast of “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” the sequel to 2005 hit “Sin City.” The actor, fresh off roles in "Looper" and "Lincoln," will play Johnny, a cocky gambler, TheWrap said.

As with the original film, based on Frank Miller’s iconic graphic novels, the sequel will follow several different storylines, which overlap and interweave to create a larger tapestry of bloody deceit and rough justice.

“Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role,” directors Robert Rodriguez and Miller said in a statement.

While the likes of Rourke and Dawson are returning, some new actors have been brought in to fill old slots. Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung have joined the cast, Haysbert replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute and Chung replacing Devon Aoki a Miho.

Directors Robert Rodriguez and Miller are also expanding the universe, with more casting announcements on the horizon.

This sequel, written by Miller and “The Departed” scribe William Monahan, will appear in 3D with Dimension Films distributing it.

Gordon-Levitt has starred in movies with a noir sensibility before, such as “Brick” and “The Lookout.” He is about to bring his directorial debut, “Don Jon’s Addiction,” to Sundance for its premiere. The actor wrote it, and stars alongside Scarlett Johansson as a man who is a hit with women but struggles to find true happiness
