The potential spinoff, which will be tested with a backdoor pilot on the April 25 episode of "The Vampire Diaries," will center on vampire clan the Original family, with "Vampire Diaries" star Joseph Morgan reprising his role as Klaus. On the April episode, Klaus returns "to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans -- a town he helped build centuries ago -- and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel." "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Secret Circle" actress Phoebe Tonkin is also set to star in the potential spinoff, which is being eyed for next season and bears the working title "The Originals." "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer/writer Julie Plec is shepherding the project, and is writing as well as executive-producing. "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Leslie Morgenstein and "The Secret Circle" executive producer Gina Girolamo will also executive-produce. Plec is working on the spinoff with Alloy Entertainment, in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.
