Candidate goes on strike as presidential campaign launches

PanARMENIAN.Net - Presidential campaign kicks off today, Jan 21 in Armenia.

Literature expert Vardan Sedrakyan has called a press conference, with Heritage leader Raffi Hovannissian to deliver a speech at Yerevan’s Liberty Square.

As for Radio Hay director, candidate Andreas Ghukasyan, he has chosen a strange way to launch the campaign. A few days ago, The Central Election Committee (CEC) of Armenia rejected his statement, demanding for the candidate of the ruling party Serzh Sargsayn to be disallowed to run for president. Mr Ghukasyan further announced a decision to go on a hunger strike for an indefinite term on Jan 21.

In conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the candidate noted competition with other presidential hopefuls senseless unless the ruling party leaves the race.

While Andreas Ghukasyan goes on hunger strike, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) candidate Serzh Sargsyan launches his campaign in Yerevan’s Avan administrative district.
