The magnitude-6.0 quake occurred at 5:22 am (1022 GMT Monday) with an epicenter 15 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, according to the geophysics agency. It had a depth of 84 kilometers. An 8-year-old girl was killed and eight people in Pidie district were injured by falling debris as a result of the quake, the local emergency agency said. The quake sparked panic in Banda Aceh. Residents rushed out of their homes, fearing a tsunami.
