Sony rolls out 4K upscaling home cinema system

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony is forging ahead with its expansion into Ultra High Definition (UHD) by announcing a stylish home cinema system that can upscale content to 4K resolution, Digital Spy said.

The Japanese firm said that this year's N-Series home cinema systems can transform an existing movie collection on Blu-ray to four times the resolution of normal HD for viewing on any 4K TV.

The design for the top-end BDV-N7100W home cinema system takes inspiration from 'Sense of Quartz', intended to harmonise with the latest Bravia TVs from Sony.

The big new feature is 4K upscaling, which plugs the current gap in the emerging UHD TV technology - namely, the lack of native 4K content.

Sony released a mammoth 84-inch Bravia 4K TV last year, but it cost 25,000 euros and there are no 4K TV channels or 4K DVDs that users can currently watch on it.

Many Hollywood movies are now being shot in 4K, but it will take time before the content trickles down into the consumer market.

However, the N7100W at least allows users to take their existing Blu-ray Disc collection and bump the resolution up to 4K, offering four times the detail of full 1080p HD.

The system's speaker units have been fitted with Sony's Magnetic Fluid Speaker technology, which uses a ferrofluid material developed by NASA for the space programme.
