The film is adapted from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and is set before the novel and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. In the film, a Kansas con-artist (James Franco) is swept into a magical land where he must fight an evil sorceress. Joining Franco in the fantasy movie are Mila Kunis as Theodora, Rachel Weisz as Evanora, and Michelle Williams as Glinda.
