Weak Armenian opposition forced to resort to political tricks – expert

PanARMENIAN.Net - Incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan has no actual contenders, which forces the weak opposition to resort to various political tricks, according to the director of the Institute for Political Research of Black Sea and Caspian Region.

“The assassination attempt of candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan could be used as an excuse to delay presidential vote,” Vladimir Zakharov said.

The head of CIS Institute’s Caucasus Department Felix Stanevsky, in turn, noted that the stir around the assassination attempt is extremely unbeneficial to leading contender Sargsyan. He agreed with Zakharov as to the fact that the perpetrators hoped to postpone the vote over Hayrikyan’s injury.

In conclusion, he noted the security issue of presidential candidates to have gained currency, izvestia.ru said.
