Armenian, Latvian border guards may step up cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Security Council (NSC) Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan met Feb 6 with Latvia's chief of the border guard service Normunds Garbars.

Mr. Garbars noted that Latvian border guards have extensive involvement in European missions, have joined the common educational system and currently undergo trainings. He further hailed the prospects for deepening of cooperation between Armenia and Latvian border guards.

NSC Secretary, in turn, said Latvia’s experience may benefit reform implementation in Armenia.

Mr Baghdasaryan voiced readiness to foster the programs and events of FRONTEX European Union agency for external border security, aiming to offer effective solutions to border security problems.

The two men also expressed hope for the cooperation between Armenia and Latvia to transform to a practical platform.
