"The American defense secretary announced that the United States will be in a magnitude of 8,000 to 12,000 troops involved in Afghanistan" post-2014, the German minister said. Reuters says Panetta or his aides were not immediately available to comment. He was due to address a news conference shortly. According to the United Nations, April was Iraq's bloodiest month for almost five years, with 712 people killed.
