ZTE Open Firefox OS smartphone unveiled![]() February 26, 2013 - 19:48 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - ZTE has unveiled the world's first smartphone running Mozilla's Firefox OS at the Mobile World Congress, Digital Spy said. The ZTE Open is a budget handset featuring a 3.5-inch HVGA TFT touchscreen, with 256MB RAM and 512MB of ROM on board. Running off a 1200mAH battery, the device also comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera and support for Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi (b/g/n), and AGPS. ZTE has announced the phone for launch in Spain, Colombia and Venezuela later this year, with plans for a release in the UK and US markets yet to be confirmed. Mozilla recently revealed plans to take Firefox OS global, with operators including O2 owner Telefónica pledging their support to the up-and-coming operating system. ZTE has designs to bring Firefox OS devices to Europe, but it is unclear whether the ZTE Open will make it to the territory. Partner news It’s not the first time Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been interested in the New York-based hipster blogging service. The number of new smartphones delivered with Android jumped to 162.1 million in the first three months in 2013. “We believe Samsung generates more revenue and profit from the Android platform than Google does,” Neil Mawston said.
