Google Maps iPhone app boosts local search, adds contacts integration

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google Maps for iPhone has been updated, adding contacts integration and improved local search results, Digital Spy said.

Users can now automatically search for addresses listed in their Google contacts and get directions there.

Local area information has also been more deeply integrated into the service, with users able to search for nearby locations that fall into 13 specific categories and call up data on each.

Google Maps returned to iOS in December 2012, following Apple's decision to introduce proprietary mapping software with the release of iOS 6 three months earlier.

However, Apple's own mapping service was marred by inaccuracies at launch, forcing CEO Tim Cook to issue an official apology to users and overhaul the team behind the software.

The latest version of Google Maps for iOS is available for free from Apple's App Store.
