R. Kocharian Called to Activate Armenian-Greek Interparliamentary Cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Armenia treats Greece as a friendly state and this friendship has been consistently developing during the recent years," Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated upon completion of the meeting with his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias. According to the Armenian leader, systematic political contacts between the two states can be rated as satisfactory. The RA President thanked the Greek party for assistance in various fields and implementation of cooperation programs. In his words, the reforms being carried out at present can be useful for both states. As for the talks held with Mr. Papoulas, the RA leader said they discussed various issues including the problems of the South Caucasian, Baltic and Greek regions.



Besides, the Armenian President met with Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis to discuss the prospects of business cooperation between the two states. The Armenian delegation led by the RA leader also met with Greek Parliament Speaker Anna Benaki-Psoruda, who assured of her support to the development of bilateral relations. At that Robert Kocharian called to activate the interparliamentary development between the two states.



Robert Kocharian held a meeting with Mayor of Athens Dora Bakoyianni. Ms. Bakoyianni emphasized the age-old friendship between the Armenian and Greek peoples and the contribution of Armenians to the epoch of the Byzantine Empire. When touching upon the Armenian Genocide she noted that traces of the past still remain on the territories where the Armenians and Greeks has lived over centuries. Robert Kocharian in his turn expressed his gratitude to Greece for receiving the numerous Armenian community. To note, during the visit the Armenian President laid a wreath to the monument to the Unknown Soldier and met with representatives of the Greek opposition as well as with the Armenian community members, reported Free Day, the Armenian newspaper published in Athens.
